Biennial CE Requirements

An Overview of Continuing Education

To maintain your certification and registration with ARRT, you’ll need to meet our ongoing requirements throughout your career. This section describes our biennial Continuing Education (CE) Requirements. For in-depth information, review ARRT Education Requirements for Obtaining and Maintaining Certification and Registration.

What Are Biennial CE Requirements?

Every two years—known as a biennium—you must complete and report a set number of CE activities to maintain your ARRT credential. In addition to the information below, refer to our Guide to Maintaining Your ARRT Credential and Continuing Education (CE) and Renewal FAQs.

When Do I Earn and Report CE?

Your biennium is the two-year period during which you must complete your continuing education (CE) activities. It ends on the last day of the month before your birth month.

Timing and Deadlines

  • Completing CE Activities: You must finish all required CE activities by the last day of the month before your birth month.
  • Reporting CE Activities: You'll report CE credits every other year during the renewal process. The deadline to report CE is the last day of your birth month—the same day as your renewal deadline. (Note: Because biennial CE activities can only be reported during your renewal period, you'll need to keep records of the activities that you complete throughout your biennium.)

Important to remember: The deadline for completing your CE activities is one month earlier than the deadline for reporting CE and annual renewal.

Refer to the Your Deadlines section of your dashboard to see all of your renewal and biennial CE dates.

How Many CE Credits Do I Need to Complete?

  • Most R.T.s are required to earn 24 approved CE credits each biennium, regardless of how many ARRT credentials they hold.
  • R.T.s with a Sonography credential must complete at least 16 sonography-specific CE credits as part of their 24 required credits.
  • R.R.A.s need to complete 50 approved CE credits each biennium.
