STRUCTURED EDUCATION
Structured education is a vital component of certification and registration as an Imaging Assistant (I.A.). Its purpose is to help you master the discipline-specific knowledge you’ll need to obtain your credential.
When pursuing an I.A. credential, you must complete 32 structured education credits that:
- Are targeted to reflect the Examination Content Specifications for the discipline you’re pursuing
- Include at least one credit from each of the document’s major content categories
Structured education activities must meet the following criteria:
- A CE approver or state entity must approve the activity, and/or the activity must be an academic course from an institution accredited by an ARRT-recognized agency.
- You’ll need to complete all structured education and clinical competency requirements within the 24 months before you submit your I.A. exam application.
- Until you apply for the exam, any logged activities that exceed the 24-month timeframe will automatically expire.
- Once you apply for the exam and are assigned an exam window, your activities are locked in and will not expire.
How to find and log your structured education activities:
- We're currently building our Imaging Assistant online tool, which we anticipate will be available in summer 2026. The tool will include a database of activities that meet the criteria above. You'll be able to search the database to find activities that will satisfy your structured education requirements.
- After you finish each activity, you'll log in to your ARRT account and use the online tool to document your structured education. Once logged, ARRT typically reviews and approves submissions within two business days. Occasionally, additional time is necessary.
