PostPRIMARY ELIGIBILITY PATHWAY REQUIREMENTS
The postprimary eligibility pathway is for those who are currently certified and registered with ARRT and would like to pursue an additional credential. This pathway may also be used by those who hold a credential from ARDMS or NMTCB.
*You can earn MRI credential using the primary or postprimary eligibility pathways
**After Dec. 31, 2019, ARRT will offer only the Primary Eligibility Pathway for earning a Sonography credential. If you still want to use the Postprimary Eligibility Pathway to earn a Sonography credential before then, you’ll have to meet certain deadlines. Learn more here.
The education requirement for earning a credential using the postprimary eligibility pathway includes:
- Being ARRT certified and registered in an appropriate supporting category. In some cases, your certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) can count as your supporting category
- Meeting the structured education requirement
- Meeting the clinical experience requirement
To become a candidate for certification and registration, you must demonstrate good moral character. Learn more about our ethics requirements and how you can request an ethics review preapplication.
After you meet the education and ethics requirements, you’ll need to pass an exam before earning ARRT credentials. Learn more about our examination requirement—as well as how we create exams, what to expect on exam day, and what happens after the exam.
