ARRT requires certification examinations to be practice-related, so it periodically conducts a job analysis to ensure the certification examination content specifications and clinical requirements remain comprehensive, accurate, and fair. With the help of the professional community, ARRT reviews the certification documents every five years. The ARRT Board of Trustees recently approved changes to the following document, which will go into effect on January 1, 2027.
Overview of the Major Changes to the Clinical Experience Requirements
- Mandatory and elective procedures can be counted on the same patient on the same day. A maximum of 2 elective procedures may be counted per patient per day.
- “Perform and analyze a DXA scan of the whole body” (3 repetitions) was added to the elective procedures list.
- “Perform postprocessing analysis (e.g., auto-calculate) to create a TBS” (3 repetitions) was added to the elective procedures list.
- The number of repetitions for the elective procedure “perform and analyze a VFA using DXA equipment” decreased from 5 to 2.
- The elective procedure “perform follow-up scan for rate of change measurements from two occasions (for the same patient) to assess changes over time” was clarified to include “(candidate performance of initial scan on same site is not necessary)”.
