ARRT Extends Recognition of Three Radiologist Assistant Programs

At the January 2026 Board of Trustees meeting, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) extended recognition for the radiologist assistant program sponsored by Rutgers University for another three years, the radiologist assistant program sponsored by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for another five years, and the radiologist assistant program sponsored by Loma Linda University for another five years.

Students who graduate from these programs, while they’re recognized, will meet ARRT’s educational eligibility requirement of completing a program recognized by ARRT. As advanced-level radiographers, Registered Radiologist Assistants (R.R.A.s) extend a radiologist’s capacity by performing various health care procedures. R.R.A.s work in hospitals and private practices.

To get or maintain ARRT recognition, educational programs must meet criteria including accreditation, clinical education, and preceptorship requirements. ARRT evaluates programs based on our Recognition Criteria for Radiologist Assistant Education Programs, which we revised July 1, 2025. Five years is the maximum recognition time ARRT awards for radiologist assistant programs seeking continued recognition.

ARRT recognizes the radiologist assistant educational programs at:

  • Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California
  • Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls, Texas
  • Quinnipiac University, Hamden, Connecticut
  • Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Newark, New Jersey
  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
  • Weber State University, Ogden, Utah

“We congratulate the faculty of all the programs and wish them ongoing success,” says J.J. Powell, Chief Credentialing Officer.
