Radiology Business Spotlights ARRT’s Leadership in Safeguarding Patients During Remote Imaging Operations

We’re proud to share that Radiology Business chose to feature ARRT at the forefront of a critical industry conversation: how to keep patients safe as remote imaging operations expand. This feature article highlights CEO Liana Watson’s leadership in promoting safety standards that keep pace with technological innovation.

In the feature, Watson addressed growing concerns about who is at the bedside during remote MRI exams. “We’ve got to set a standard,” Watson said. “We know we can’t get registered MRI technologists up and running quick enough to address this issue. But what we can do is set the minimum standard for the facilities using assistants for remote operations.”

To meet this need, ARRT introduced the Imaging Assistant, Magnetic Resonance credential earlier this year. This new credential establishes education and competency requirements for individuals assisting in remote MRI settings so that patients receive safe, high-quality care even when technologists operate exams remotely.

Watson emphasized that without standardized training, facilities risk placing unqualified personnel at the bedside. “What’s happening right now is that imaging practices can just bring in anybody to help—without any standardized training, without standardized testing of their knowledge,” she noted. “We can’t allow that.”
