Updated Mammography Clinical Experience Requirements Document

ARRT requires certification examinations to be practice-related, so it periodically conducts a job analysis to ensure the certification examination content specifications and clinical requirements remain comprehensive, accurate, and fair. With the help of the professional community, ARRT reviews the certification documents every five years. The ARRT Board of Trustees recently approved changes to the following document, which will go into effect on September 1, 2025.

OVERVIEW OF THE MAJOR CHANGES TO THE CLINICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • The candidate must be MQSA compliant prior to submitting procedures for their required clinical experience requirements.
  • For QC documentation, the candidate is limited to one submission per day per test. More than one different QC test may be submitted each day.
  • For QC documentation, if the manufacture’s QC recommendations do not require a listed test, the candidate should follow the 2018 ACR Digital Mammography Quality Control Manual information to perform the test.
  • If the radiologist’s workstation monitor is remote, the candidate must review the documentation of the monitor QC, according to facility protocol.
  • The candidate must perform at least five of the listed elective procedures. A candidate may count up to two procedures on any individual patient each day.
