Updated CT Documents

Since certification examinations must be practice-related, ARRT periodically conducts a job analysis to make certain that the examination content specifications and the clinical requirements remain comprehensive, accurate, and fair. ARRT, with the help of the professional community, reviews the discipline documents every five years. The ARRT Board of Trustees recently approved changes to the following documents, which go into effect on July 1, 2022.

OVERVIEW OF MAJOR CHANGES TO THE CT CONTENT SPECIFICATIONS

  • In the Patient Care section, additional content about patient assessment and preparation related to CT procedures was added.
  • In the Safety section, the radiation physics area was expanded. Additional content in the patient considerations and dose measurement areas were added.
  • In the Image Production section, shuttle/continuous/cine and dual energy/dual source were added.
  • In the Procedures sections, pituitary fossa, base of skull, discography, sternum and/or ribs were removed. Some of these areas are seen with other studies.
  • In the Procedures sections, chest wall was added.

OVERVIEW OF THE MAJOR CHANGES TO THE CT CLINICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Each of the following areas were listed as CTA/CTV: head, extremity, neck, and abdomen/pelvis. These areas were separated so they can be counted as a CTA or a CTV and are considered separate procedures.
  • The following procedures are new and were added to the procedures list: retrograde cystogram, and ablations.
  • The following procedures were removed and cannot be counted as separate procedures: pituitary fossa, lung nodule study, and discography.
  • Vascular pelvis (CTA/CTV) was combined into arteriography abdomen/pelvis (CTA) and venography abdomen/pelvis (CTV)
  • The minimum number of repetitions required remains at 125 procedures. A minimum of 30 repetitions must be done with iodinated IV contrast.
