Updated Breast Sonography Documents

Since certification examinations are required to be practice related, ARRT periodically conducts a job analysis to make certain that the certification examination content specifications and the clinical requirements remain comprehensive, accurate, and fair. ARRT, with the help of the professional community, reviews the certification documents every five years. The ARRT Board of Trustees recently approved changes to the following document, which goes into effect on July 1, 2021.

OVERVIEW OF MAJOR CHANGES TO THE CONTENT SPECIFICATIONS

  • In the Patient Care section, the patient communication area was updated to include more detail about patient assessment and explanation of findings and recommendations. Respond to inquiries regarding automated whole breast ultrasound (ABUS) was added.
  • In the Image Production section, spectral Doppler and elastography were removed. Sonographer ergonomics, image documentation, annotations and measurements were added.
  • In the Procedures section, postoperative breast changes and therapeutic treatment changes areas were created under Breast Interventions. Additional details were added under Image Guided Breast Procedures.
