Candice Johnstone, M.D., M.P.H., Joins ARRT Board of Trustees; Albert Blumberg Completes Board Term

Candice Johnstone, M.D., M.P.H., has been appointed to a four-year term on the Board of Trustees of The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). She will begin her term on Aug. 1, 2020, filling the position vacated by Albert Blumberg, M.D., FACR, who will retire from ARRT’s Board of Trustees July 31, 2020. 

Johnstone is Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Alyce and Elmore Kraemer Cancer Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital, in West Bend, Wisconsin. In addition, she is an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She previously served on ARRT’s Radiation Therapy exam committee.

After graduating from Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Johnstone earned her doctor of medicine degree at New York University School of Medicine. Several years later, she earned a master’s degree in public health from Harvard School of Public Health. 

Johnstone serves on the Board of Directors of the American Association for Women in Radiology. She is also a representative on the Radiology Information Committee of the American College of Radiology. She holds memberships in numerous professional societies and sits on the editorial boards of journals including the Journal of Cancer Education, Practical Radiation Oncology, Journal of Palliative Medicine, and Radiotherapy and Oncology. In addition, she co-edited the textbook Handbook of Palliative Radiation Therapy.

"I’m excited to serve on the board, given ARRT’s importance in ensuring quality, advocating in the fields of radiology and radiation oncology, and promoting professional development,” Johnstone says. “I look forward to deepening my knowledge of the organization."

Blumberg is a retired Radiation Oncologist who worked with Radiation Oncology HealthCare PA, a physician group providing radiation therapy cancer care at Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) and St. Agnes Hospital Cancer Center. He was a member of ARRT’s Radiation Therapy Practice Analysis Committee prior to being appointed to the ARRT Board. Blumberg also served on the boards of the American Society for Radiation Oncology and the American College of Radiology.
