Overview of Credential Options

As you advance in your career as a technologist, you'll have a range of options for professional growth. ARRT offers 14 credentials via two pathways: primary and postprimary. We also offer certification and registration as a Registered Radiologist Assistant. Learn more about ARRT credentials and pathways by following the links below.

Primary Pathway

You can earn ARRT certification and registration in five disciplines using the primary pathway: Radiography, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Sonography. Learn more about working toward these credentials in our primary pathway section.

Postprimary Pathway

After you've earned your first ARRT credential using the primary pathway, you may earn additional credentials. Learn about postprimary options in 10 disciplines.

REGISTERED RADIOLOGIST ASSISTANT (R.R.A.)

As advanced-level technologists, R.R.A.s are qualified to perform many procedures that a radiologist would otherwise have to do. To earn the R.R.A. credential, you must be a radiographer who has completed a specialized educational program, and you must meet ARRT's requirements in education, ethics, and examination.
