Government and Health Care
In the midst of a changing health care environment, medical imaging and radiation therapy are evolving at an even more rapid pace. Providers and patients are demanding increased quality and safety, and ARRT certification promotes qualified individuals to meet this demand.
Government plays an important role in patient care quality and safety at both the federal and state levels. Federal activity includes passing legislation, creating regulations and taking the lead on reimbursement issues. States, through their licensing of technologists, also play a role. In both of these arenas, ARRT is invested in the long view, recognizing that passing legislation and implementing changes is a process involving many stakeholders.
Government affairs at ARRT
ARRT’s government affairs activities are built on three principles:
- supporting federal and state laws that improve quality and safety standards, and helping develop the regulations that put those laws to work;
- promoting efforts to ensure consistent qualifications for professionals in medical imaging and radiation therapy; and
- advocating on behalf of R.T.s in all disciplines, including R.R.A., to promote best patient outcomes.
ARRT is only one player in these activities. We engage in partnerships, coalitions and common causes with other organizations whose objectives mesh with ours. We actively “lobby” lawmakers and regulators through ongoing conversations to engage them in our causes.
