EFFECTIVE MID-2019
Since certification examinations are required to be practice related, ARRT periodically conducts a job analysis to make certain that the certification examination content specifications and the clinical requirements remain comprehensive, accurate, and fair. ARRT, with the help of the professional community, reviews the certification documents every five years. The ARRT Board of Trustees recently approved changes to the following documents, which go into effect on mid-2019.
OVERVIEW OF MAJOR CHANGES TO THE CONTENT SPECIFICATIONS
- A Patient Care section was added so vascular sonography program graduates may be eligible for the certification.
- More detail was added to the Image Production section.
- Brachiocephalic arterial and venous vasculature, photoplethysmography (PPG), and toe-brachial index (TBI) were added to the Procedures section.
- Angioplasty and thrombolysis were removed from the Procedures section.
CLINICAL COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
- The Clinical Competency Requirements is a new document so vascular sonography educational program graduates may be eligible for the certification examination.
- Candidates must demonstrate competence in five mandatory patient care procedures, four scanning techniques, one equipment care activity, 39 mandatory imaging procedures, and 17 elective imaging procedures.
